Man...dude was going to stick around but he lost his coaching staff. Now they give him the boot. There's tough times coming to San Diego for a season or two. Losing seasons, probably not. But they are a team that can go to the Super Bowl several times in the next 4-5 years, easily. They're a young, talented and physical team. Losing that coaching staff is huge, even Marty.

yea they said marty wanted to bring in some new guys for the coordinator positions, and the GM didnt' agree, so basically marty said the hell with this, and thats that.

Yeah...the GM wasn't having it. Tough way to go out. You go 14-2 and you're let go. But, ultimately...losing so much coaching staff the way Marty did is significant.

So officially......Marty left or was he fired?

yea from what chris mortensen is reporting, he said that marty and the GM had a disagreement in hiring new staff. Apparently marty wanted to add his brother to his staff. Apparently the owner had enough, and with all the middle-men (the O-coord, d-coord, assistant coaches) that left marty and the gm had to interact with each other even more. The owner decided to let marty go.

Although I think his playoff history leaves a lot to be desired, he led that team to a 14-2 season. The 2005 season, the Chargers were the best team not to make the playoffs, which isn't bad (not excellent, but you know). I don't think he should've been fired for that. But it is what it is. They have the talent, that's for darn sure. Let's see who they bring in and hopefully make another run for the title in 07.
