Default The Packer Playoff Scenario

Looking at the still-alive Packers' playoff scenario is a bit like trying to wade through a mathematical algorithm: the basic principles are simple to understand, but as you get further into the equation it becomes quite a bit more difficult to grasp.

One thing is very clear: Green Bay's chances are going to become a lot more clear after the Giants-Redskins game on Saturday. In order for the Packers' hopes to stay alive, the Giants essentially have to lose. There are some other possibilities for the Packers to still have a shot should the Giants win, but a lot has to fall into place and it's far too murky for me to try to break down right now.

The other major implication is of course the Packers' control of their own destiny, needing a victory over the Chicago Bears. Luckily, most of the Packers players don't have too good of an idea of what needs to happen in the playoff scheme, outside of this.
"All I know is we're playing Chicago," safety Nick Collins said Tuesday. "That's the only game I care about. If we make it, we make it. If we don't, we don't. I'm not even worried about it."
That's exactly the kind of mindset this team needs going into Sunday night's nationally-televised game. While Lovie Smith won't announce until later in the week whether or not he's going to sit players, the Packers have to be focused and ready for whatever lineup Chicago throws out there on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Packers faithful will be focused on the NFC scoreboard with anxious anxiety on Saturday.

And we'll have a reason to drink one way or another come Sunday's 7 p.m. kickoff.

lol, I have seen the word "or" so many times this week it makes my head hurt. I have been doing the same thing all week with the Panthers. Clinch with this or....or...or.....

This is most definitely going to be a great week of football.

Closing weekend is ALWAYS the best. Lets see the real teams progress while the others shut down.

Agreed, unfortunately for me, both of my teams shut down early in the season. Big disappointments and down right saddening. No logical reason for Carolina to be in the position they are currently in.

I wish your Packers the best this weekend. **looks once again at scenarios** Nope, gotta take that back. Carolina needs you to lose. Sorry.

Jets have a good chance but I do not see them getting all that far. But good luck to them and I need to find a good AFC team to root for since my beloved Pitt is not in *cries*

I will most likely go for Baltimore but not sure yet.

Thank you. I am pulling for Brett and hope he beats the Bears. I know the Jets may not make it past round one, but any playoff game would be nice. I thought the Steelers had a chance but did not do well last week. The Jets still have to beat Oakland. In the past, with the Jets, that was not a given (beating a team you should to make the playoffs). I hope Mangini has moved us past that. I do not want to somehow back in, not with it all right there. I am not a billick fan. I would pull for San Diego.

You guys know what team I'm pulling for...

They're for sure not good enough to deserve it but dangit I hope they make it anyway. A cinderella run to the Super Bowl Championship and Brett Favre rides out on the sunset.

Hey, I can dream, right?

The Steelers did have a chance but there was way too much against them with other teams that I doubt even if they would have won, that they would have gotten in. Oh well, I am not worried about it, one more game to go tomorrow and my season is officially over.

I will make up my mind next week as to who in the AFC I will root for. I would not mind seeing a Bears/Ravens SB. That would be nice and should be a good game.

They just took a big hit with the giant win. What a game for Tiki! What a way to go out...I still hope Brett crushes the Bears!

hello cowboys...

the circumstances didn't even get close to aligning for the packers. they did, however, forthe titans, who were down by only 6 at one point in the 4th quarter before throwing the game away.

However, at least my prediction of them going 8-8 came true.
