Just don't stress over it. We want this to be fun and currently there is no time limit. We'll get it done when we do. We all have greater priorities at the moment.
I am looking forward to it and can help with formulas to make relations work. When we get that far let me know.

Simon, can we regulars have Mammoth Tanks, instead of regular ones?

You can have instead of a bar building, a "pub" building

^^
Off course it would! Regulars would suffer from some form of pub-addiction, limiting their production output though...

No one has posted here in awhile, so I thought I would...

I know we're gonna be able to choose one resource and then have the other assigned randomly. This is a good and all as it allows the player to customize their nation to their liking, but what if the randomly assigned resource is the total opposite of what he wanted? Maybe if we implement all resources into categories, it would be better.

EG: Player chooses a military resource and is then asked what category he wants the other resource to come from. A random resource from whatever category he chooses is then randomly assigned so he at least doesn't have to change around his strategy due to a bogus resource they don't need or want.

Of course this would mean that there has to be an equal number of resources per category for the sake of variety.

Good idea?

Well, how about just assigning the resources randomly? I have no problem with that, but in CN it's just that some resources are just a lot better than others. Simple as that. Furs suck, lead sucks. Lumber is too good however (good effects and part of three bonus resources). Just try to balance it a bit more than CN did and you should be fine.

Of course you could still use the 'choose the category' type of approach, but my main point is that there needs to be a better balance between resources

Well each resource will have some sort of purpose. I also think if resources some how were stacked we could have a bonus multiplier. Perhaps the resource that we get to choose could be changed from time to time as well.

I think that if you have to choose 1 or more resources from the start, you really have to know the game and your strategy before you even start. Most people will not (want to) do that, they just want to start playing. So randomly given resources should work better than.

I agree that some reqources in for example CN are better than others, which could unbalance the game somewhat. Of course you can "fix" that by trading with other nations, but looking at our own discussions in the CN thread, many players want to start over again because they got a bad roll at the start (including yourselves).

If we want it more RTS-game-like, categorizing nations or resources sounds great (similar to wisdom for wizards, strenght for fighters, agility for thiefs, etc.), as long as the resources are equal / similar in strenght or use.

That would be nice, perhaps you would be able to built up experience with a certain resource, and if you change a resource, you would start with nil experience with it. That way you can switch, but not just start 'shopping' depending on the weather or so.
