Default 'New' technologies to save electricity and water

Watch this movie: www.dumpert.nl - Amazing Discoveries met Amerikanen

The 'new' technologies introduced here are pretty much standard here in Holland for the past 20 years.

Dual-button toilets: I don't think I know a house without them
Those things in a faucet? Once again, don't think you can buy one without over here
One boiler for the entire house? Why do you need two or more?
I don't even have an incandescent bulb on my bike, let alone in my room. Two halogen, the rest are CFLs.
Our programmable thermostat is over 15 years old.

Are these things really new and unknown to Americans? Please tell me CNN was off...

No americans are the throw away society and we suck. (no offence to other americans who dont think we suck - but to anybody who has looked from the outside in - we totally suck)

With the exception of the fancy crapper all that stuff has been around in the US for quite a while. That clip makes us look backwoods. The makers of the clip just wanted to sound like they had something worth while to tell us.

We build houses out of wood for good reasons. We have lots of earthquakes in the US. If there is major quake in my area and I am indoors, I REALLY hope I am in a wood structure. They can flex and twist the most without cracking and crushing everyone to death. Plus we have lots of wood in the US, so it is much less expensive than concrete or cinderblock construction. You guys in Europe really seem to love concrete buildings and that’s fine cause you don't get too many powerful quakes. The Turks aren't so lucky however...

My house is made of wood and was built in 1964 and is doing just fine. I won't be throwing it away any time soon. I have cool twisty neon lights in it, a thermostat with a timer, one furnace and one hot water heater. If I put in a fancy two button toilet I'll be as cool as a Swede apparently.

Built like crap !?!?! Unfortunately your right.... but its worse than wood... here in Arizona, they will frame a house, put Styrofoam up..wrap that Styrofoam with chicken wire and spray stucco on it... thats it... punch it hard anough and you'll put your hand threw the wall!!

Dunno about the quakes - I just think that its cheaper, more likely to get broken, then replaced.
Wish my house had chicken wire!
