Default I just had an awesome idea!

I just had an awesome idea with regards to drinking canned beverages. What if, in the centre of the can, we places a "tube" of compressed air, with a release on the bottom. You release the air and it would cool the drink, as expanding air absorbs heat. Thoughts?

so you release it, and what remains in the tube after you've opened it? air.

expanded (and now warmer) air.

you'd get the exact opposite effect that you're trying for. warm coke.

I think it'd take a little longer for it to get hot again after it's been cooled down by the compressed air...

Wouldn't the compressed air make it more flat?

would the compressed air even have anywhere to expand to?

As long as the can is open it's an open system which means there is space for it to expand to.

Why not just refrigerate your beverage?

refrigeration FTW... while the compressed air is an interesting idea, it probably would make the soda flat, and it would be fairly expensive too

It would probably sell though, because (by and large) consumers are retarded.

Try blowing through a straw into a glass of coke, it does make your drink flat pretty quick.

I like the idea of quickly cooling a beverage in a can, though beer would be my first priority. Waiting a half hour while my warm beer sits in the freezer and away from my mouth isn't a happy time. Somehow, we need to figure out how to produce the opposite of a microwave. I didn't pay much attention in high school because I didn't have to, I played football, but if memory serves microwaves make things warm because they excite electrons within our food. So, all we have to do is slow those electrons down and the beverage should get cold.

Right?

Well, yeah, that is mostly the basic concept of energy. That doesn't make us any damn closer to engineering a "reverse microwave".

no. the closest we've gotten is slowing them down by cooling them, not cooling them by slowing them down.
