Default Car Trouble

I've got a '96 Honda Accord that won't start. I know I didn;t leave the lights on so the battery can't be dead. I jiggled the hookups for the battery still nothing and the brake won;t depress all the way. It's really stiff but I think that just might be a hole in the brake line.

When I try to start it I can here the engine turning over very slowly and it won;t get any faster. I thought it might be the distributer cap but if it is I have no way of getting a new one to replace it with.

I just tried to start it again and now the engine won;t even turn over. I'm tempted to try jumping the battery but I don;t want to in case I **** something else up. I might be in trouble though. It's my mom's car. I mean I didn;t hit anything or do anything out of the ordinary to it but for whatever reason it won't start and it's thrown a wrench into my weekend plans.

Murphy's law has been plaguing the hell out of me lately, man. I'm about ready to ****in' flip.

When you turn it over have somebody knock on the starter with a wrench or screwdriver. If it responds your starter is the problem. Also, if you know anybody with an amp meter borrow it and see if you are getting enough power to the starter.

I've got an ampmeter and I did that. I don;t think it;s the starter or the battery. I've still got lights, AC and radio.

Turns out it was the battery. For anyone that's interested. None of you are.

Sorry I didnt get here earlier Brenton. I just saw the thread.
Even though a battery has enough power to turn on the lights and radio, it still may not have enough power to turn the crank. There is combustion that takes place and this takes a lot more juice. I know you already know that now. But that is just an fyi for the future. Next time I will try to be quicker in response.
:PEACE:

No problem, man. Yeah I learned that when I picked up the new battery. The battery has never been changed on it until now. So that's 9 years. My dad picked up a distributer cap for it, too. We knocked all the crap that built up out of the old one but he says we're gonna need a new one soon and it;s best to have it on hand.

Yeah the mechenic was pretty shocked, too.

But we bought it in 98 and the previous owner only had like 1,000KM on it, so it didn't really see much use in the first two years.
