Default OK...time to ask for help.....

When I start up Portal, i get to the beginning screen and it says "loading" and then my computer restarts
When I start up TF2, I can get past the menu, to the servers list and pick a server. When the server gets loaded, my computer restarts.
Half Life 2 works fine, and I haven't installed episode 1 and 2 yet

I meet all the minimum requirements, and I'm running this off CD.
Have tried reinstalling, and advice i found at the Steam forums (changing startup options from shortcuts & updating video drivers) and some other wierd forum (changing video driver to an older version).

Need help plz.. really wanna play with you guys...

Oh, knifeheavy thinks its cause i have and integrated graphics card, but I run all my other games fine...(and Half life)

Do you have both integrated and a regular?

Make sure your ram is plugged in all the way, same with HD, gfx cards, soundcards, that happened to me once where my 2nd hd popped out and killed my computer in terms of speed, internet, etc.

Turn off your firewall. I had the same issue with mine hanging when anything by Valve loaded until I turned mine off. I have since gone back through to make exceptions, but still sometmes hangs. Alt+Tab doesn't always work to get out to allow something to happen.

Sorry, my internet has been out since thursday night. I'm gonna go get some RAM tomorrow, to see if that fixes it. Ashen, I'll try that asap.

I can second this, I had the same problems with DoD too.
Firewall+steam=trouble.
Eventually I figured out how to set up the firewall to allow steam to function - by turning up the settings bit by bit until I found the problem (which I can't remember what was now)
