Default Tips and Tricks Thread

Since the games relatively new, and we have a space for discussing, I'm sure there's lots of little things about this game that we have yet to discover that some of us may have already. If you know anything helpful, please feel free to post them here.

For a start, everyone knows about the soldier's rocket jump... however, if you wanna UBER rocket jump (im talking 20+ feet), tap crouch right before rocket jumping. (Credits and thanks to Panda for this)

FYI, if youre gonna do this, I suggest at least 70 health or with a medic healing you, since the rocket jump alone is gonna take away 50 health, and the last is gonna cost you another 15-20.

So what do you guys know?

One huge tip I suggest everyone do before playing another round is watching the game commentary. Lots of good info there!

uber charges will only last 15 seconds, so make sure you make the most of it.

As a Sniper you don't always have to go for head shots. This sounds a little redundant, but this will help you stay alive longer when against other snipers. When scoped, you have a meter that charges to 100% and when fully charged, you will instantly kill any unit with health lower than a Pyro (175?) in one hit. When dealing with Snipers, don't worry about the head as taking that little extra time you could end having a bullet in your head.

Surprisingly, I forget that tidbit of info a lot.

Probably everyone knows this but you don't have to wait for your shotgun to completely reload before you can fire, same goes for the rockets.

Headshots only do more damage with sniper rifles and melee weapons. Any other gun will do equal damage regardless if its shot in the head or the foot.

As a Pyro, put your mouse DPI up to 2000, hold the button down, and spin.

tow tips for spies.

1. don't use the teleporter as your not only a fast class, but also you will have a trail of dust falling off you which will give away your position to the enemy.

2. Never disguise yourselfs as medics, as it looks really suspicious with a medic running around not healing people.

Good one, my favorite disguise is Engineer because generally they stay in the back and smoke while everyone does the fighting. I have also had a lot of success with demo man for some reason. The one they always get me in is heavy.

dont bother disguising as a scout either. you run faster, but not as fast as a scout usually does... its a bit suspicious to see a slower scout.

another thing, theres a delay when you start shooting as a heavy, since the gun has to spool first. if you are where you need to be, and you expect the enemy to be coming soon, you can start spooling the gun by holding the right click down.

Demoman can do super jumps with shooting two sticky bombs at his feet and run towards and detonate (fly great distances).

Spy when disguised only carry the main gun of the character, never a secondary like knife broken bottle etc.

Pyro's never stay on fire, like others.

Scout's acts as two people on a capture point and not just as one as others (faster to take points).

Well most of these might be well known already , but newbies won't know.

i think itll take a while for us to realize these things...

but another way to let the engineer know that youre a friendly and not a spy is to hold a secondary weapon (as majestic says) or hold the team VoIP button down (or actually just saying its you on VoIP). when you talk via VoIP, the exclamation mark pops up over your head, indicating youre talking on it. enemy spies cant do that.

Very true...

When I started playing I wondered why I would always get "caught"

If you're on fire in shallow water, you can "crouch" to put yourself out... Learned that today while battling a pyro in the lower levels of the ctf map.
