Default Map sizes

Features - ETQW

We have on the page a clear statement (which has not been changed so far) that the maximum player count on a multi player map is 24. That leaves each team with 12 players. Now when you look at maps in BF2 and BF2142 even with 16 players on each side, you can very often get into a "search frenzy" where you just search for enemies to encounter because the levels are so big. And what about vehicles, specially the flying ones. How much sense would they make if the maps are not very big, so people don't get lost in them. Or if they are reasonably big, will the infantry play a lower role?

If everyone would only sit in the vehicles at all times, what the hell would the different classes be there for then? Also if you have no anti vehicle weapons it would only be vehicle against vehicle all the time. I think i read there are anti vehicle turrets though, so its not all just slaughtering the infantry. And you can rake in scores with an anti vehicle gun again

well we will see how they design the maps and how strong those defensiv turets are..

if they are any good they will simply be avoided/killed from long range, if they sound better then they are then they will get ignored.
it realy depends on how the maps will be balanced.

and i still dont see a gun/launcher that a infantry man can carry to dmg/destroy vehicles

jeez, the maximum player count is NOT 24. If I has a £1 for every time someone said that.

The recommended player count is 24 as that is what the maps have been balanced for and is what gives the best game play, however you can set your server to whatever player count you like (its not been confirmed if you can have more than 64 but you can have up to 64 and possibly more)

Map sizes are around the size of a BF2 map, slightly smaller but considering the no-go zones in BF2 you wont notice the difference.

As for combat you'll always have someone to fight as ET:QW plays similar to W:ET with its front line type game play.

And PulseSUI, infantry can take on all the vehicles, a tank would be preferable but infantry do have the equipment to take on anything on the map.

since the ET:QW engine is based on the doom3 engine i can hardly believe that sudently it will be able to handle 64 players if in the original game it was hardly able to handel 20 players?!

i see a deployable Anti vehicle turret, thats preaty mutch it..
maybe some of the mines will be usefull against vehicles too, but still i can not find a weapons that allows me to engange a vehicle in a offensiv way.

Advanced real-time physics, and all new network code support large-scale military combat for up to 24 players through real-world locations, including deserts, glaciers, mountains, and countryside.
I would like to see where you saw any number higher than 24. Thats the latest i have heard of and also is noted on this page.

The game will ship with maps designed for 24 players and it’s up to the modding community to create larger maps.

As Fate mentioned in the thread I brought up about the features page.

How many players can join a battle? What will be the benefits for players with higher rank?
There’s no restriction on the maximum that a server administrator can set, beyond the physical hardware specification of the server itself. As with Wolf ET, we expect that people will run very large servers just for the lemming-like fun of it, but the sweet spot for coordinated teamplay is currently between 16 and 24 players.
Computer Games Online - Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Interview Part 2

Almost everything about ET:QW is in my head, the little bits of info from all the interviews and more importantly directly from SD themselves when you ask a question on the forums.

I've got a crap load of info in my head i just don't know where i got it from :P

Wee bit off topic, but I don't think it deserves its own thread, and I couldn't find the answer on the fevergaming page for QW; but isn't this game an expansion of Quake 4? Meaning you have to own Quake 4 in order to play?

ET:QW uses the same engine (the doom 3 engine, although very heavily modified) but it is a completely separate independent game.

Thanks for the quote, that explains a lot

So massive battles (and some lag hells) are preprogrammed.

i think they're right about the "sweet spot." it's at that amount where i've usually experienced higher levels of teamwork and fun.

I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again: I played ETQW at the Games Convention in Leipzig.

They set up a 24-player LAN so people could try the game out. A bit like a very small beta. To get straight to the point: it was GREAT. It was basically action all the way through. See my post here.

No matter how few people are playing, the action is always centered around the current objective, not spread out across the battlefield like in ehh... Battlefield.
