How much better is DX10?

I mean there is some shader stuff, but in effect, when you just run around and shoot, whats the big difference? Anyone care to chip in some expertise and experience?

From the video footage and me playing somewhat of DX10 on company of heroes on vista, i looks more lifelike, but that could have just been the better graphics card lol

There are things like soft shadows, great improvements in lighting, smoke/dust, etc. There has also been great leaps forward in physics. there has also been a HUGE improvement in sub-particle shading and rendering, allowing much more life like materials, such as skin and wood. Also greater performance.

The performance i get hands down, particles effects, well i just played some BF2142 and i must say DX9 looks already very very nice in that respect. The lighting part could be interesting in general, as in DX9 most of that as simply "faked", but then again, i really hope to see some direct comparison shots DX9 to DX10

Comparison shots would be nice. That way i can see what i will be missing by playing DX9.

Very nice! Yeah, I can see it in still shot but when your adrenaline is pumping, and your running around a map shooting anything that moves....is it really all that different?

you can get a nice AMD system for about £800 in the UK. Dual core, 8800 graphics etc, pretty sweet

Son of a gun! I should've gotten a 8800GTX instead of duel x1950XTX Ub3r Editions. I didnt realize that it would run so fast on a 8800, I thought it would slow that down like FSAA does for my cards...sigh!

Your setup will be better than one 8600GTS so if you have a 19-22" monitor then you'll be fine i'd reckon. I did the same and got a 7900GS 512MB but will get a 8800GTS 640MB at xmas. Much Much cheaper in 6months. Actually i'd like to see who my PC runs with the 7900GS with a Core 2 Duo 6600 + 2Gb for Corsair RAm which is what i'm running now.

^^ but he will be running DX9, as the 1950 is not a DX10 card.

My apolgoies for chipping in so late, but
I played both the DX 10 and the DX 9 version, of course, the DX10 version looked much better, but the DX 9 version is definately no slouch either.

And yes, the 1950 isn't DX10, you should have gotten the 8800, sorry dude

^^ Oh yes i must agree the DX9 version still looks amazingly nice it just doesnt have all the newest feature. but you wont be disappointed!

If your going for Dual core why would you go with AMD?
