I personally like ATI over nvidia cards, but then crysis is surely optimized for nvidia. So if you want the best performance, i think it will have to be a nvidia 8000 series. And of course vista if you want DX10 goodies. By the time Crysis is relased some of the nvidia cards will be a bit cheaper than they are now, so i think it will be a good idea to wait with an upgrade till then.

You should look at a 8800GTS for sure. Possibly even a 2900XT ATI.

Yea, if only i could upgrade my laptop, the best i can do it put another GB of RAM in it. So im saving for a new built, a nice mobo, 2GB of RAM, 8800/2900 series, quad core probably (as i do a lot of multitasking). Im hoping to have all the money for it by crissy, so until then i will be playing on my current setup.

i'd say a Core 2 Duo is better for gaming as it has 4MB cache per CPU not 2MB like the Quads do. it's only 4MB Shared.

Still you won't need $2500 maybe just under $2000 if you won't a $400 mobo, but if your not planning on going SLI for a while you'll only need a $250 Mobo still with SLI but not 680i version. Asus and Gigabyte have some nice mobo at the moment with silent fan options. Gigabyt have really nice components because they are all hard capacitors.

RAM wise 2GB of Corsair RAM PC6400 DDR2 now is about $160. (i paid $360 in march). Just make sure you spend alot on a really nice PSU then you'll have no issues.

Happy shopping....pitty you and i can't use newegg.com as we could have both saved hundreds on our machines.

Yea im so glad that DDR2 RAM has come down in prices, it was SOOO expensive not that long ago (as you found out). Yea investing in a great PSU/Mobo is always worth it. They will last a long time and will never fail you. Yea i will decide the exact models when i get the money, but yea i cant wait! i love upgrading! (but my wallet dosnt)

yea ram is fairly cheap in the UK now, you can get proper gaming ram, but dont see the point in paying a lot more extra money. Ram is Ram at the end of the day! lol

The thing you pay a lot extra for is the quality of the RAM> Also for the timings, you will find that the faster RAM usually runs as quicker timings, also they are checked better for performance so they should be able to OC more. But yes i agree, the value ram works just fine in most instances.

I should be able to run it on low, maybe.
Would love to stay up to date with technology but unfortunately that costs money.

Well, he only said he wanted to upgrade his video card. But the problem with this is that he only has an AGP port so he is going to need to upgrade his Mobo, RAM, cpu and the video card.

The best AGP card is the 7950GT, but it is overpriced for the performance. The 2 lower AGP cards are the X1950 pro and the 7800GS. So either you can get a new AGP card or upgrade most of your component.

Whats your budget for this upgrade?

I feel you pain. That is the bad thing about computer gaming. Things change too quickly.

Hopefully gonna get a new dvd drive, some new speakers (2.1 hopefully) and a new screen (widescreen hopefully!). If i still have any money left over i might get a new video card. Gonna leave it a few years before i upgrade the whole rig. Only just did it under 12 months ago!
