Default Do you figure BF3 will replace BF2...

... if only because BF2 will be rather old by the time it comes out? I mean, given that Battlefield 2 came out in 2005, by the time BF3 comes out (if it does), I'm willing to bet it'll start to fade into obscurity.

Along the same lines, BF2142, I think, would have been a lot more successful if it launched, say, in 2008 or 2009. Even if it didn't keep people playing for long, it'd be more likely for people who hadn't played a Battlefield game in ages to pick it up just to give it a try.

Also, how long do you think BF2 will last? I haven't played in ages, so I don't know how many servers there are right now, but given that it's already lasted for three years or so, people must be getting tired of it...

I think it depends on how good BF3 really will be. Battlefield Bad Company is a major step on that route. If BFBC will be good, I am sure we will see lots of elements of it in BF3. If not, Battlefield 3 will be very different I think.

With BF3 being a success, it will most likely draw most players away from BF2 and BF2142 at that point.

If its a hyped up BF2 then Id think so.

I've semi-retired my BF2 account in anticipation anyway!

Exactly right. We've already seen that sequels don't necessarily mean that the fans want to move on. With BF2142 there was a terrific amount of hype but in the long run it's less popular than BF2. If BF3 delivers the goods, then not only will fans move on, it'll attract a much larger fan base because of it.

BF3 will replace BF2 only, if BF3 will be better and more interesting than BF2, and in BF3 will don't be so many cheaters and hackers..

I hated and I still hate bf2, long life to bf3! (long life only if: Stable server; unlike bf2 server, no stupid admin; unlike all battlefield games, no cheaters; no comments, fast loading and etc.)

It also may be possible that EA and DICE will start getting more involved with the modding community and allow built-in editors and mod-loaders. If it runs on pretty much the same engine as Bad Company, it might be possible to bring the singleplayer campaign portion to pc (although that would take up a tremendous amount of space).

How about thinking if the game will even come out let alone speculating about if it will replace BF2?

Unfortunately there's nothing they (EA) can do to stupid admins and I strongly believe that every game will have cheaters. Only question is: will they make the game so that cheating is so difficult that there will be no 'sunday cheaters'. That's the expression I like to call those who just DL some easy instructions/module and use it/them to cause grief to honest players.
Hacking the client/server should be made so hard that it's easy for even PunkBuster to identify them fast and without doubt. Also if there will be same kind of record system like in BF2 it should be built so that it can identify potential anomalies in record data (i.e. how long the player has been registered vs. time dependent medals/patch etc. ) and tag the player id for further checking.
I know...I'm just fantasizing but sometimes it's only I got

I think we're past that stage now. There's only so much "thinking about whether the game will come out" one can do before it gets old.

Not really, I think all this speculation is getting old. Until an 'official'press release announcement is made--we are all just pi$$ing into the wind.

Exactly. Which is why they should drop the Heroes garbage and get back to business

its promising that now EA/dice is including maps from the moding community in they official patches as RANKED

i never would hoped to see this day coming : )

(i talk about the 1.5 patch for 2142)

-------------------------
as for heroes i would not call that garbage, i really hope the real BF3 will be MMO, the lame 64-100 player / round with extreme limited customization is starting to get old

now they just have to combine the grafix & style of bad company with the game play of hearoes
