Default Vista Punkbuster Insufficient O/S Privileges solution

If you are running Windows Vista and your Battlefield game disconnects from Punkbuster enabled servers with the PB kick error:

Insufficient O/S Privileges

This means you must start Battlefield as Administrator. There are two ways to do this.

1. Right click on the icon and select “Run as Administrator”

2. Right click on the icon and select “Properties”. Select the “Compatibility” tab and check the “Run this program as an administrator” check box. Now you can click the icon normally.

This method can be used with any game that uses punkbuster.

Didn't work for me. I had to disable User Account Control (go to Control Panel and search for it).

User Account is already disabled here but I still get kicked...

I've done everything I possibly could to solve this problem but the problem won't go away as I still get kicked from servers because of PB.

Here's what I've done so far:

- run the game as administrator (and I am a administrator on my comp)
- update PB
- enable PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe in windows firewall
- open the correct port for PB on my router
- checked if the PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB services are running
- enable PB in the game (of course...)
- finally ran the PB utility to test the service on my comp and it's perfect

But I STILL get kicked... I don't understand!

You can download the PB utility here:

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

You can use it to:

- test the services
- install/reinstall PB
- uninstall PB

What versions of Vista are you all running? It worked for my Vista Buisiness upgrade edition, not updated.

Yes. I, too, have done all that to no avail. There are a lot of people this has happened to. And in different games that has punkbuster. I have support tickets in for ea and punkbuster and they took me to a certain level of response and now nothing. What a waste. Maybe some class action suit. But all I want is to be able to play the game again.

are you kidding me? I buy this f'cking game and what the hell ? It doesn't work on Vista!!! You're kidding, what kind of a prick would I be if I gave my clients a product that wouldn't work?

By the way, I've tried to play as an admin and no effing result, so please find a solution quickly.
I hope for the devs that the patch is on hand cause this is a real problem they need to address.

Of course it would be nice if Dice would fix BF to work better with Vista, but MS breaking the OS so half the programs won't work anymore definitely isn't their fault, or is it?

And BF definitely isn't the only thing that doesn't work anymore, lookies - at least, unlike other programs, it can be made to work for most people.

Still, allow me to reiterate, it would be nice if Dice made it work without problems with Vista. I guess it's on their list

It says plain as day on the box, and during installation, that it is for Windows 2000/XP. If you really want to play, put XP back on your computers.

i am running XP SP2 and up till this night, no problems with PB. then tonight, i get kicked from all servers after 30 seconds and i get teh stupid PB box. i go to pb online and get the 10-20-07 update and install it. restart the game and still get kicked. I am so sick of EA DICE and PB . i have ahd to uninstall and reinstall this game about 6 times since i have owned for 4 months, not to mention all of the goddamn pb update and EA patches.... so glad i did not pay full price for this crap. I agree with one of the other guys, CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT may get their attention, but I doubt it. they will just continue to release crappy products, string along the customers, then alienate them completely.... i hope they all go out of business....
