No freaking way will I buy anything that will charge me a monthly fee!!! Do you have any idea how hard that would be to hide from my wife? A MMOFPS does sound sweet though. DMX and I would play it YEAH!!!

Thread revival! (but not in the form of pointless spam)

Internode Games Network News: New Rumour: Battlefield 3 in 2008?
Read and decide for yourself.
I'm pretty sure that EA/DICE said a while back that BF:Bad Company would be the last BF, but I guess you never know...

i would like current 50-100 player system (or more if possible) WITH OPTIONAL MMO capability

with means you buy the game you can play as now, AND/OR for a monthly fee you can join MMO servers with many 100's of players in battle (even if this feature in not FREE)

when i say MMO i do not mean like the wuss WOW thing, the same type of epic war simulation, just in a much bigger environment with a hell of a lot more players, well designed = not concentrating on choke points but wide spread all out war

items need to be transferable and earnable+tradable no mater where you play

for normal-ranked servers maps packs need to come out MONTHLY ! not every 120+days.. they do not have to be free

even better would be if you can buy rankled maps 1 by 1 online, lets say $1 or $2 each, the reason for this is that we get a map pack for $5 with 3-5 maps and usually we like 1 or 2 from that pack

sure not all servers will run all maps and some maps will vanish.. but that do not mater because there will be always "new flesh" game wont be boring so fast

i would even add BUY able upgrades and reserved vehicles.. but i know most ppl wont like that, especially the ones with little money ; )

and most important there has to be 100's if not 1000's of upgrades not 12 not 50 and not even just 100

DX10 and destructible environment WILL be, a game would not sell in 2008+ with dx9 only.. so that is not a wish thats a fact

and this IS doable, and not even hard.. and every one would be happy (except single players, BF is not a single player game), even the publisher as they sell the game like before + they make extra money on maps and MMO players

Quote:
* Will ship with 8 maps......
* Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
* Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
i sure hope that just made up stuff, that just pathetic for BF3

A conclusion to 2142 would be nice.

the battle for mining rights of helium3, uranium, platinum, gold on the moon

or the same on mars at least the gravity is not so low there

although those might be a bit to "scifi" for some, even trough it could happen a lot sooner then the next ice age

i just hope BF3 is NOT balanced like 2142, but more like BF2... that 2142 is a bore the way its balanced

what do you mean by planetside?

Monthly fees don't really bother me. What bothers me about games that typically require monthly fees are that they're so bland and that it takes forever to get/do something. I think the problem is those games need to give the player something to play for hours on end every month.

I used to think that the monthly fees=updates and new areas every month. I realize that's not true and you usually get updates every couple months and new areas/content every 1/2 year or so (roughly).

I played a month of WoW (hated it... I'm one of the few). I played City of Villains (and some Heroes). Loved it but got bored of the grinding after the 3rd month. Played a LOT of Guild Wars. Tried Everquest, but EQ=WOW but uglier. Or I should say WOW=EQ but nicer. I also played some EVE for a couple months, that game has a sweet idea but it lacks things to do, eg. missions/quests/whatever get repetitive quickly. I also *cough* play some Maple Story, that game is a MEGA grindfest, but there's no monthly fee. I tried that new Tabula Rasa beta but it didn't have enough new ideas/concepts/whatever to lure me in. I found it's just an old MMO with a new skin.

IMO an MMO should give some new content every month, to keep players interested. A new area, a new monster in an existing area. New skills, new classes, new loot. New systems. They just have to be simple enough to add easily into the game (hey, they only have a month to get ideas, develop and test test test them!)

planetside was the 1st and only MMO-shooter (so far i know), how ever is low-budget and stone old, so most people never heard of it

like 2 years ago i downloaded it to see how it is, but its horrid to even my standards 2 years ago

maybe you heard of warrock well we all know how that compares to BF2 = unplayable, although warrock has some nice ideas but its low-budget design makes it just junk

well same with planet side but 10 fold

no, HUXLEY is probably the answer

Huxley Screenshots

grafix and physix is not bad, and the story line is very similar to crysis

the challenge in MMO-shooters is to get away from the "classical" MMO template, corporations are always scared to try out new things even if they obviously good ideas

the classic MMO template wont work to good with a shooter, over whelming majority of guys who play games like BF2 don't want the same MMO for the same reason WoW is popular, obviously we (shooter guys) want huge maps , big battles, many 100 or 1000 weapons/items, epic battles of proportion of 1000 soldiers and vehicles

what most of us could not care about less is the wuss "i'm doing a online virtual mariage" or "do you want to walk with me in the forest"

as well as missions should not be like going after big bosses, OR even go hunt down 500 aliens or enemies in the hills... such things should not even be part of a MMO-shooter

instead a missions should be:
-the capture, or defense of "London"
-defend or destroy supply convoy from HQ to CITY
-defend or destroy airport or carrier-fleet
and so on..

items should NOT be traded in markets or weapon lockers, but have shop like game menu (so 2d game option)

new items should be traded/sold OF the 3d environment, so on special chat rooms or boards, similar to "stock market", because it looks much more pro then running up to a dude and select chat... thats just cheap, besides a pro trading environment has HUGE advantages a classic MMO could not even come close to

i could go on.. being creative is really not that hard.. game makers are just freaking CHICKENs

Hey remember the game TRIBES? Remember how you could fly all over? Imagine if DICE did some sort of copy-twist on that, on the Moon? It'd be cool.

Personally in BF3 I'd like to see the whole RPG-twist expanded. "Buying" cooler looking armor with rank/badges. Titles (eg. if you spot the player, it'll say underneath their name "Pro Knifer" or "Tank Commander" or something). And just general customization of your character. Themed events would be great (eg. Xmas Weekend, where all players have santa hats and different colours).
