I started my FPS experience with BF1942 then I moved to Planetside (MMOFPS) then back to BF1942. I realized that I enjoy BF1942 more because I have more influance on the the outcome of a fight. Probably the small number of players where everyone counts is the reason. I find that even in BF2 when there are more then 40 players, it becomes a mindless frag-fest.
I would give a battlefield MMOFPS a try, only because of the legacy Battlefield games.

What would be nice is if they worked something like HUXLEY. Huxley allows PC and XB360 players to play together and uses various "cities" and have like 100 person battles.

I'd love to see the next BF game either have some sort of ongoing environment, like the MMOFPS, and some cross platform work.

Well, the idea sounds pretty cool, but it's really an outrageous rumor that's probably not true. If they sold in-game advertising and whatnot, they wouldn't even have to charge a monthly fee, because they know that no one would pay for BF3 when they could just play BF2142. Now the BF3 being the conclusion to BF2142 sounds pretty cool, huge armies could fight and territory could be won and lost and changed rapidly. The idea has some merit, but once again, it's just a rumor that's probably not true.

if there is a BF3 it will be FAAAAR in the future, like a year or more, 2142 will be ancient history by then

it would be a completely new game, new engine, that is a lot more work then 2142 was – that takes time, and so far I know they did not even start on it yet

I think it is a great concept but in reality it most likely will not work due to the monthly fees and it probably wont compare to WoW and its cult of people in it. I use to play it and yes it was addicting and took over my life. That is why I had to stop LOL

Well you have to admit, IF they pulled off an MMOFPS with advertising paying for server upkeep instead of players, they would revolutionize MMO's and start a new era in gaming. Those darn games have only gotten more expensive over the last few years....and the free one's just aren't worth it (yeah I said it! )

I know plenty of fellow gamers that are intrigued by some of the MMO's out there but stay away strictly because of the monthly comitment. They would even be able to entice younger audiences who have trouble with those payments.

are monthly fees so outrageous? the standard is somewhere in the $15 range, thats like 1 trip to the movies. Id shell out the cash for a month of quality entertainment.

actually since movie tickets are so expensive a lot of people do not go there either, last time i went to the movies was about 8 years ago, its easier to rent the movie later or download it, and anyone can afford a used video projector this days – I paid only $300 for mine (20x movie tickets)

yes $15 is a lot, i think it should not be more then $10/mo, BUT FAIR would be less then $5

it does depend also how much money you make OR how much you have left over after paying for stuff you have to, but even if is a joke - like how many people pay for that .. what possible reason is there for such high prices.. i know is free market, it just angers me that lack of quality competition drove the prices so high

because its clear that the money you pay is PURE profit, the investition + updates/servers are nothing compared to the massive money that comes in some of those games

WOW has currently 7 mill subscribers / $15 / mo = $105 million pro month
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/wo...n-subscribers/
I think they overhead cost / month is measured in $1000’s, the rest is profit

here:
According to The New York Times, the WORLD OF WARCRAFT game is on pace to generate over $1 billion in revenue this year alone. Dateline: Thursday, September 7, 2006

Actually yes, for a game that you already shelled out $50-$60 for in buying it in the first place. I agree that $15 by itself is not much at all, but put in in the perspective of yet another monthly note as a game that you already paid for....it's pricey. $180/year AFTER buying the $50 software to install it.

Personally, I feel a Battlefield-style MMOFPS would be amazing. Imagine four hundred our so players running around in classic battles, such as Quang Tri in the Vietnam War, or Omaha Beach in the Storming of Normandy. The intensity of fighting would be absolutely amazing.

Fees arn't really an issue and I'd love to see a a BF MMORPG. There are currently some games out there ie Planetside but they don't fancy me too much.

I don't know if the monthly fees of the people who did play would make up for the loss of sales of the people who would'nt buy it because there were monthly fees ? MAybe over time but if only a realatively small number of people did it then wouldn't the number of servers for it go down so there would be places that had large number of people on them whick would be the whole point od MMp BF. Don't know much about MMP games.
