Default Venting about Reward System

Hi I just want to vent a little about the reward system BF2142 has. After playing some games such as Team Fortress 2 and checking out CoD4, I came to realize the reward system in BF2142 isn't that fun. How often have you achieved 29/30 kills at the end of the round? Or missed that last roadkill? In TF2, the reward requirements are all cumulative, and same in CoD4 afaik.

I do believe BF2142 does have a nice amount of rewards and it feels great earning some, but I think it's too bloody hard to get some! It'd be better imo if they weren't based so much on luck (eg. you just happen to kill 30+ people on your titan that one round... normally there wouldn't be so many!) but were based more on skill or experience. Something like "50 hours as Support class + 200 kills with the Ganz" as the only requirements would indeed make the reward more fun, as you can worry more about staying alive and helping your teammates while burning up time till you can get it as opposed to worrying about finding and killing those enemies FIRST before your teammate can get to them.

Competition amongst the team sucks. Everyone should be watching each others' backs, not shoving each other out of the way so you can get there first.

I'm sure most of you would say "aww it's not that bad, you just have to play more and not think about it!" and you're right. Most of those rewards are quite reasonable and would roll in when you least expect it, but surely you'd agree that it does add some stress on the player. I also find it difficult to change my play style in order to achieve that reward, such as using the pistol as opposed to the knife.

I just wanted to bitch a little, so post what you guys think if future BF games only had cumulative requirements for rewards.

I like both the systems personally. Each has their own merits. I find that the CoD4 system is good in that you are able to track your progress (it has adecent tracker) and there isn't as much pressure to get that good round in, but to the same effect, you don't have to (in my opinion) have as much skill to get 150 kills overall (requirement for xxx III) as you do to get 30 kills in a single round.

I disagree, 100%. I have gotten most of the awards in 2142 (with my old profile), and the only two awards that I told myself I would never get were the Air medal and the Armor medal. Guess why? They were cumulative. 8000 Kills in an air vehicle? I would have to bust myself into the top 1000. 8000 Armor Kills? I'm not THAT much of a walker whore!

I LOVE awards with LOW cumulative requirements, and difficult in a round requirements. With my second profile, I nabbed the Pistol Gold first shot. Knife Gold only took me three rounds (gotta wait for that perfect round, ya know?) Crew Service took me around 6 Rounds, but I LOVED the feeling of running those noobs over!

What I am frustrated about is that I now have to sit in random things AGAIN so I can get all my badges... If all they required was a high IaR Requirement, I wouldn't have a problem. But nooooo, I need to spend 50 stinking hours in a tank... I can go on 30 Kill walker rampages, but it normally starts and finishes in less than ten minutes.

Final thoughts, is that I hate awards with high TIME requirements. Going for my armor service ribbon, I killed 30 guys in a tank on a full 64 man highway Tampa. No ribbon. Why? The round ended in less than 15 minutes. Seriously now!

Oh I agree that the 8000 kill cumulative requirements are difficult but I'm talking more about, say, 150 kill cumulative requirement or something in that range. As you just mentioned "gotta wait for that perfect round, ya know?" kind of shows my point as to why IAR may not be the best idea: It adds a little level of randomness to awards. IMO it's much more fun to relax and get the kills when you want as opposed to trying really hard to attain a certain number in a certain time period.

It was also mentioned that time requirements are silly. I agree, because being in a tank for 50 hours is indeed a long, long amount of time unless you really work at it. The medals should be for those "hard-core tank users" whereas us normal players should be able to attain the badges fairly easily. Personally I think the NS awards are a *LOT* better because the time requirements are so much more reasonable.

Now that I think about it, if the global time requirements are lame, then IaR is pretty much the same thing, except based on a smaller time scale. It might as well say "attain x kills in 20 minutes" (I find an average round is 20 minutes...)

Imagine how much more fun the armor badges would be if it was: bronze (20 kills global), silver (50 kills global), gold (150 kills global)? That way the times you owned in armor would count as opposed to how long you survived in armor (time requirements).

i agree with u 100% cannibalbob the rewards are kind of stupid because of how difficult they are but a lot of people enjoy the game because of the difficulty that they have getting the awards, everyone has there own views on the 'perfect game'

Air service medal (8000 kills) kept me playing this game at least 1 month longer after I got bored. I still don't think I broke 3000 kills...

One of my clan mates got that one recently... I think that makes 2 (or maybe 3) of us who have it.

Right now I am going for my Troop Transporter Ribbon/Medal (again). Most people see 25 Hours in the air transport and freak out... But its not really that hard. Just make sure there are no good gunshippers on, then park yourself on one of the towers at Suez. Easy Kills + time

I agree with Fin on the 8,000 kills in the gunship being excessive. Personally though I like the idea of having a fair amount of kills/hours using certain weapons to be eligable for the awards so they're not just 1-2 weeks and I have all awards even if I suck like COD4 and TF2. For the Air Medal I would rather see the number of kills required at 4,000 with the helos (then I'd just about have it) since the gunships/transports have fairly limited numbers in most maps along with there hardly being any good gunners/pilots while at the same time they have millions of walkers in the maps.

It should be cumulative the whole IAR scenarios are usually an insane special case, look at the AA ones, to shoot down a plane the Titans need to be 200m or less apart which can not happen until late in the game, (or not at all with locked Titans) and you need 15 shootdowns in a round that is ticking away

Im sure in Dices/EA thinking it would be a full transport and boom you shoot 2 or 3 down easy, boom 15 kills, in reality every pilot flies solo, I STILL do not have 10 road kills IAR LOL!

It also leads you to only play 1 soldier, I got 30 kills as recon but did not have 30 hours so no gold.

I also never got problem solver, which keeps me from getting the Titan something Medal, problem solver is very tough but not impossible you have to pick a small server etc, some of these pins need so much planning its not worth it

10 Road Kills IaR? Took me three tries, full 64 Man Gibraltar. Drive Back and forth, you'll get it eventually The FAV only takes 30 seconds to respawn, so its not like you have to wait all day for it.

Problem Solver? Not too hard, just play on empty servers, servers full of noobs, or servers with alot of your clan mates. I have 14 of them across my two soldiers, and less than half of them were earned on empty servers or servers full of my clan mates... I only feel I "deserved" one of them (I truly solved the problem by clearing out nade spammers with mah Zeller), the rest were all luck or assisted.

I do agree that the AA ribbons are somewhat dumb, the only way to do it effectively is to either be the gunner in a walker, or to use APMs.
