Multiplay i28 LAN Preview (Part 2)

This Thursday night, Multiplay UK's i28 LAN begins at Newbury Racecourse, UK with up to a maximum of 1100 competitors, who will compete in tournaments for various games, from Dance Dance Revolution to the UK finals for the World Cyber Games, and of course the £5000 Battlefield 2 Tournament, where the winners walk away with £3000 and free entry to i29, the next Multiplay LAN. The Battlefield 2 Tournament has been again sponsored by EA and this makes for some nice prizes; £3000 and free entry to i29 for the winners, £1500 for the runners up and £500 for 3rd place. I caught up with the 5 main teams at the event to hear what they had to say.

How have you been preparing for i28? Is this your main focus at the moment?
We prepared several maps so that we won't have any problems against any opponent that challanges us at the i28. Our main focus is the ESL Pro Series, which is the most important league in Germany, but the i28 is also a very important event for us to show our lanskill and because also our sponsors Creative and Abit will be there.

How have you chosen your linup for this event?
Unfortunatelly our usual commander rap2s can't be at the i28. But it was easy for us because we've got a lot of allrounders in our team. So we can easily change positions.

What do you hope to acheive from this LAN?
We definitely want to win the BF2 tournament and we think that we are in a good shape to reach this aim.Another important aspect is, that we gonna meet other Team-Dignitas players to have a great time with them

What do you see as your main strength?
With our lineup on the i28 I can't see a weakness. So we will be very strong on every map.

Who do you see as your main threat?
We didn't have much time to be prepared for the lan but i think if we can push our gamestyle through there wont be any thread for us. Lets hope that I am right!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
At i28 we will do a chopper, tank and infantry event with our sponsors. So a lot of fun with Creative and Abit!

How have you been preparing for i28? Is this your main focus at the moment?
We've been concentrating solely on the final 3 maps for the lan; Karkand, Oman and Mashtuur. Playing most nights twice a night has been the prep, but we havent been over working ourselves really - don't want lan burnout

How have you chosen your linup for this event?
It was a matter of who was available, Reason & Gladiator have paid for everyone to come to the event, so numbers wasnt a problem.

What do you hope to acheive from this LAN?
We got a good 2nd place last time coming close to beating Dignitas.eu (20odd ticket loss) so of course we'd love to go one better this time and come home with the gold. It's always going to be tough, Dignitas are an immensely strong team but we feel our preparation has been good. Anything less than 2nd place will be seen as a major failure as far as we are concerned.

What do you see as your main strength?
We don't really have strengths, we just rely on the weaknesses of the other teams :P

Then what weaknesses can you see that you can capitalise on?
I won't be specific about weaknesses that the other teams hold. There are certainly some very skilled players, but I feel their problem will be individual ego's / score whoring as opposed to working as a team. Thats the downfall of 99% of teams.

Who do you see as your main threat?
Dignitas. That's about it. Unless Conflict / MPUK / Rock can bring something special to the table I doubt we will have much problem until the later stages. MPUK / Conflict will be permanently drunk, and Rock will be high on caffiene so will will capitalise with our curry-fueled pr0-gamer hands.

How have you been preparing for i28? Is this your main focus at the moment?
We have been playing pcw's on the 3 final maps, Mashtuur City, Gulf of Oman and Strike at Karkand, although not as much as we would have liked due to other competitions, such as Clanbase and ESL, though I would still say it is our main focus.

How have you chosen your linup for this event?
We have 8 guys who wanted to come, and our lineup has been based around that. We've just been hit with a last minute problem which has meant that Big hasn't been able to come from Norway which was a big disappointment, but we have Dynamiq to replace him.

What do you hope to acheive from this LAN?
A definate top3 finish, and pushing hard for a space in the final isn't out of our reach.

What do you see as your main strength?
Our infantry, and the fact that our European players won't have to suffer their crappy connections and lots of packet loss. We also have a good commander, and a good tanker.

Who do you see as your main threat?
I think that Dignitas will beat whoever they play against en route to the final, so I would like to avoid them. I think that when we meet Reason, probably in the semi-finals that it will be a close game, and MPUK will make up the 4th spot in the Semi-finals.

How have you been preparing for i28? Is this your main focus at the moment?
It has been our main target for the past couple of months. The team has been trying to get back into the swing of things conquest wise after a period of inactivity. As usual for most teams at this time of year the preparation has been hindered by people’s exam/holiday schedules and family commitments.

How have you chosen your linup for this event?
This event our lineup has been chosen on the following basis… who was available. We have recently made a rather nice signing of 4 Swedes who together had a fairly successful run at dream hack earlier in the year. Sadly, those pesky holiday schedules and organizational funding issues have meant that they are unable to join us for the event. Our lineup stands as a healthy selection of players suited to particular roles, and we should have enough specialist players on hand to fill the armour and aircraft positions that various maps in the tournament will give us.

What do you hope to acheive from this LAN?
Well The I-series is really our home LAN, We have had a team compete in the Battlefield tournaments at 10 I-series LAN’s in total and we have made the final in all of them. Of our 80 or so tournament games we have lost only 2. That said, the competition in BF2 at the I-series has grown and grown. Some of the teams we will be facing at i28 are worthy of being talked about as being in the higher echelons of the EU BF2 scene. The tournament this time around is undoubtedly the hardest line up we have faced. Our days of domination of the I-series are behind us, but we will be seeking a good performance from the team. On our day, if all goes well, I would like to think we had a chance of causing a major upset for some of the larger branded teams.

What do you see as your main strength?
We have a lot of good people in the team, our infantry work well together as has been witnessed and evidenced by our recent concentration on infantry games. Our helicopter duo are rather special to us, And we hope to see them dish out a little pain to Team Dignitas on the Creative stand 2v2 chopper challenge. But essentially the game is down to team cohesion and it is this that we all hope works for us at this event.

Who do you see as your main threat?
As I said, there are a lot of good teams turning out for i28, But the ones that will play the largest role in causing us trouble will be Dignitas, Reason Gaming and Rock. We have good relations and friendships within these 3 teams, but would still dearly like to upset them all

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yeah just a short message of appreciation to Craig “Wizzo” Fletcher, the MD at Multiplay for managing to keep the I-series as social as they always were, but attracting more and more larger named teams and sponsors from the community. It is fantastic to see companies such as EA & Creative working with Multiplay’s I-series to promote gaming in the UK. Ive also had the chance to view the BF2 silverware for i28, and would like to wish all teams taking part good luck. To the rest of the MPUK team I would like to say, let us not make this the first final I’ve had to view as a spectator.

How have you been preparing for i28? Is this your main focus at the moment?
It should of been but we compete in Clanbase, ESL and with 2142 just out we haven't had the time I'd of liked to prepare for i28 so really we take each game as it comes.

How have you chosen your linup for this event?
I have chosen it by picking the most active players who are attending.

What do you hope to acheive from this LAN?
We hope to try and achieve 3rd and just have lots of fun since its our first LAN.

What do you see as your main strength?
Our main strength would be in our armor, our tanker has tanked since the start of bf2 and played way over 100 games also our apcer is experienced.

Who do you see as your main threat?
Our main threat will be MPUK and Team Rock. I see Dignitas taking i28 with Reason coming 2nd but 3rd is a 3 horse race so should be interesting.
