Battlefield 2 Patch 1.4 Beta Release

On EA UKs forums you can find that the new patch beta has been released. This includes the new Road to Jalalabad map and an infantry only setting that some server now sport. Since this is a beta, copy your whole BF2 directory before using the beta patch. Once you want to return to normal you can simply move the beta directory and rename the old one to its original name.

Here are screenies of the new map, Road to Jalalabad, from the single player, 16 man map:













I like the new map. It has a gritty, urban feel to it. It seems to be a cross of Karkand, Sharqi, and Oman. There are narrow passages between the buildings that players can slip through, but tanks are confinded to the roads that cross between the blocks. The 3rd flag (numbering from the top down), is the Hotel flag, and features a very tall hotel, as shown in the screenshots. Getting up there takes a while, but you can see a majority of the full 16 player map from up there. Don't fall in the fire from the plane wreckage though, you will get burned.

The bot AI seems to be a lot smarter, and more aggressive. They attacked the 4th flag (US main) right after taking the 2nd flag.

The M16 seemed to be a touch more accurate, as I was able to land shots more accurately at a lot further distances than I was originally.

The M203 still has a set distance before exploding, and can still be bounced off walls.

Unlocks are still not open in single player mode.

When you stand there with just the shock paddles in your hands, you are basically invincible in infantry mode. You have more HP and healing is almost instant.

No... shock paddles. Looks like Dice was playing around with things that weren't reported as bugs by the community and broke something. Just my guess.

When you hold the shockpaddles, its as if you hold the medic bag. Only, you can shock people. So run around that way and kill people with the shockpadles now

Ok i have played it now for a while. Other that the horrible expierence of it being slow as hell (due to the fact there are no test server on the american continent) its kinda fun. I played the new map, standard config, not infantry mode. I killed a guy twice at a flag i tried to capture, nobody else spawned though. Then when the flag just had One pixel wide a bar left, he spawned again and finally killed me. That is pure and utter bullshit. Now ok lets play together. I had a guy come with me this time. Again the same guy camping there. Killed him, started capping. You think we neutrlized it before he could spawn again? Wrong. He spawned, dropped C4 and killed us in a suicde move. Imagine if two would have spawned. Capping is almost impossible alone anymore and even in a team at two its hard. With the lags i had i cant comment much on the rest. I shoot with a sniper at a guy 4 times, saw him recoil, only to see him a full second later at a total different position (which makes me guess i didnt hit him in the first place). Until there are some servers in North America i doubt we will have any fun at testing.
