Default Re: The Customer is Always WRONG

As an IT guy you must have a lot of "stupid customers"...

I once helped a colleague of mine with his computer. He told me he had a virus on it, and asked me if I could check it out for him.

So I ran the anti-virus software etc. and found nothing. So I asked him what his problem was.

He said that every night he turned off his computer, but when he arrived in his office the next morning, his computer was up and running again. He was always the lastperson to leave the office, and the first person in. He was actually the only guy with the keys to his office, and noone could ever walk into his office without him knowing it. It had started some weeks ago, just after the IT department had installed some new software.

Intrigued by this problem, I checked with the IT department. They didn't know what was wrong, and they just installed a windows update or something, and had ran a viruscheck after that as well.

So I went back to my coleague and asked him if he could just show me what he did every night before he switched of his computer.

He showed me how he would click on "Start", "Shut down" and than on "OK".

After the computer had restarted, I showed him the drop down menu on the shut down screen, where he could choose to shut down his computer, instead of restarting it...

Edit: And this just shows how not-boring a tax adviser job can be...
